The Canadian Deafness and Research Training Institute (CDRTI) develops culturally appropriate education, research and training strategies to bring awareness and improve the wellbeing of Deaf individuals both across Canada and internationally.

Founded in 1988, CDRTI has carried out numerous projects in the fields of healthcare equity, mental health and the revitalization of Indigenous sign languages such as Inuit Sign Language (ISL) and Yucatec Maya Sign Language (LMSY). With its multidisciplinary team of researchers, interpreters, and community members, CDRTI values the perspective and lived experiences of Deaf people through its various workshops and focus groups.

Over the years, CDRTI has cultivated partnerships with advocacy organizations such as the Nunavut Deaf Society (NDS), the Layton Lethbridge Mackay Rehabilitation Centre (LLMRC), Bob Rumball Canadian Centre of Excellence for the Deaf (BRCCED), Habilitas Foundation and the Montreal Community Foundation. With the support of its partners and government funded projects, CDRTI works towards empowering members of the Deaf community and providing an inclusive environment for Deaf people.
